    Very Strange Period... Any Ideas?
I've always bled a bit heavy... and I've always had a few little blod clots come out during my period.. and some abdominal pain.. but this month has been weird. I woke up yesterday morning.. about 4 with HORRIBLE pain... and I was on the toilet for a whole hour it hurt that much, because if I laid down the pain was unbearable. I finally got it to ease off with a heating pad. A few hours later the pain started again quite bad, and this morning it's horrible again. My bleeding has also been strange. At the beginning my period was a bit brown, which has happened once before. This time however I've had an extreme amount of clotting. I would say that there is probably 3 times I've had a handful of clotting... in the toilet. Any ideas about why this may be caused? I've also skipped a month of my birth control pills, could that be causing it? Also, I have hypothyroidism... and I can't seem to find anywhere that it causes these symptoms to your period, but maybe someone has had similar experiences. Also... I did take a pregnancy test I'd say... about a week ago and it did come up negative... because my first thought was maybe a miscarriage... and I know tests aren't always 100% accurate... but I thought it might be something else.

    Thank you.

You don't mention your age. Age can play a part in this problem. I would go to a doctor and get a "serum" blood bregnancy test. If you are/were pregnant there may not be enough HCG (pregnancy hormone) for a home pregnancy test to detect. There is the possibility of a miscarriage. If not pregnant you may need a D&C. Go to your primary doctor and get this checked out as soon as possible.

Agreed, my friends mother had the same thing, but it turned out that she had had a contraceptive loop put in, and it was cutting into her cervix. Always best to seek a doctor's opinion when there is pain and excessive bleeding involved.
