    Co-sign: void of contract?
When given my lease forms the day before I moved into my apartment, the landlord asked for me to have a cosigner because I have never been on a lease before.
I decided to have my mom as the cosigner. The landlord gave me both his and my copies of the lease for her to sign which I would have to mail because my mom is out of province.
5 weeks later, I have discovered that my building is infested with bedbugs. The same day, just 2 hours later after I find out my super calls me asking if I had the lease. I completely forgot about it to this point. Since I don't have a phone I called my mom long distance on a payphone and ask her about the papers. Turns out she hadn't signed them yet. I told her about the infestation and she is hesitant to sign due to this problem.
Now what I am wondering is.
If she didn't sign them is that a void of contract? Is it something that could help me get out of this infested nightmare of a building?
We already had 2 girls move and is taking the landlord to the tenancy board. We have proof that previous tenants that will testify that there was problems here with the bugs that the landlord didn't fix. He had pest control in the building once and they only did some of the halls and only a few units. All of them are infected. He never notified any of tenants in the building about the bug problem when it arose. I found out when the new tenant knocked on my door and told me. He also didn't tell the people in the units being sprayed that the pest control was coming, they had to call pest control to find this info out.
Is there anyway at all that a person could get out of their lease because not all paperwork was done. And that should have been arranged and done by the landlord before I even moved in.
    Please help!

    Hello b:

If they have YOU on the lease, that's all they need. I'm sure they'd like your mother to be on there as well, but they don't need her on there in order to go after you.

The bug problem is a separate issue. If you want to know what you should do about THAT, let us know.
