Colored Dye For Oil to Detect Leaks
My company wants to use colored dye in our oils/lubricates to determine what machines the leaks are coming from. I have found one company that supplies a liquid dye in two colors, blue & red. We were hoping for a little more choice of colors. I have heard of a possible powdered dye for this use but cannot find any information on it. Does anyone know of a distributer that can help me & does anyone know if a powdered dye exists for this use?

Googling it, I see most leak detectors for oil-based liquids are designed to be seen under UV light. Are you looking for something where UV is not needed?

Standard oil base dye in powder form is available from specialist chemical supplies. I have some in red, blue and yellow. The commercial name is 'waxolene' and is a bit old now so the name may have changed. Made by ICI, I got mine from Bricco Chemicals. Don't know if they still supply it but maybe they have a similar product. I can give you a small sample if you want to trawl the suppliers for it.
