1998 Honda Civic - Speedometer is fault; check engine light on
98 Civic - Speedometer dead; check engine light is on.
Started a few months back... speed sensor has been replaced in addition to the alternator, new fuses and a lot of labor time charged.. 800.$!!
It was OK for a month or so... then back to the same problem and the car has left me stranded but was able to boost in time to get it to the garage...
More new fuses... this week same problem... new mechanic we asked to go easy on us due to costs as we have spend a lot with same problem.. ran some schematics, saw nothing funny with the wires around the harness put 14v fuses in and it is running but we are expecting it to die anytime now...
Please help. We have read a lot of posts which indicate this may be just a short somewhere i.e. corrosion or a wire rubbing where it shouldn't...
We are not car people and would appreciate any advice.. Thank-you.

. Check for codes with a scanner or code reader, since the Check Engine Light is on.

. Check all under-dash and under-hood fuses yourself, using a test light or multimeter:

This should save you a little bit of money.
