My cousin is suffering from chronic tonsils. She have tried different medications, but no results. Doctors suggest to go under surgery. She wants to try first alternative medicine. Any advice or any useful web site would be greatly appreciated.

It's something she might grow out of. I had tonsillitis all the time when I was younger and was never well enough long enough for surgery so I never had out. It did take a few years though for this problem to clear up in my case, but if your friend feels that surgery is the answer for her, then have them out.

I suggest sleeping with a soft cloth wrapped around her neck I suggest smearing a small amount of common aspirin ground into a powder onto her collerbones and I suggest
She carfully gargel with a diluted solution of water and red vineger then take pain reliever until it subsides ? Or see a doctor

From personal experience, I could not say a better one for children and adults, than:

1. Gargle with either salt water ( good pinch, probably quarter of a teaspoon, dissolved in a glass of tepid (lukewarm) water. OR

2. Gargle with lemon juice water (sieved juice of half of a well ripened lemon mixed with a glass of tepid (lukewarm) water.

Both are very useful, reliable, and really helps. They helped to keep my tonsils as a child.

Needless to say, after gargling, it has to be spit out, NOT swallowed.

I don't know about children, but for adults it is also remarkably helpful to chew fresh ginger root. Just peel the papery skin off, cut a thin slice and chew. This time you do swallow the juice. When chewed, swallowed all the juice, the ginger root what's left is just fibre like threads, that you spit it out. No harm if you swallow it, though. I do spit it out myself.

Don't be surprised, it stings a lot. The more inflammed your throat (or tonsils) the more it stings. Soon, a stinging will be less and less ias the inflammation lessens.

I believe children, might be due to still inmature defence mechanism, more often have sore throat, or even tonsilitis. These are mostly the result of bacterial or viral infections. As their defence system mature, the episode should lessen.

In earlier times tonsillectomy (the removel of the tonsils) were nearly rutinelly done. Nowadays, many experts regard tonsils as part of the defence system; simply put, like a gate to held up harmful bacteria, viruses to go further. In that sense, they can be considered very useful.

There instancies when the risk outweight the benefit, and to remove them is necessery. But, it is much less, than you think. Some time ago, I was surprised to see a statistics stating how small a percentage of tonsillectomies were really necessary.

The operation, as every other surgical procedure, has its own risks, involving anesthetics, possibilities of infections (superbugs), the outcome of the surgery itself, and the bleeding that could occur 5-7 days, or even 2 weeks after the surgery, sometimes with serious results. They are just a sample of the possibilities. It might make sense to look them up those possibilities to have a clearer picture.

A second opinion from a different doctor would widen your knowledge as well.

SENSIBLY used alternative therapies (with the agreement of your doctor) might work, it did for me, and millions of others.

There are cases when the operation has to be done, but might be sensible to leave it as the last choice instead of the first.

Hi, Candice, Thank you very much for your kind words and good wishes ! It was not me or any of my folks this time, but the question was assigned to me, so I got the answers directed to me. I am very new in this area, and there are many things I have to learn.

About your anxiety. It must be frightful to you, I am sorry.

I know of a relaxation technique, you might know it yourself, if not, you might want to try it.

Just sit down, comfortably, with back straight, your hands loosly in your lap, and close your eyes. Try not think of anything, just think of you breathing, nice, slow, comfortable breathing. Don't force your breath in any way, just be aware of it. If any thought pops into your mind, don't worry about them, just go back to be aware of your breath. Do that in every day, once, twice for 10, 15, or 20 minutes. If you feel an anxiety attack coming on, might be helpful to do it.
