Where do you attach the fourth wire when installing a 200 amp disconnect in between the meter and the service panal.
THANKS
Which fourth wire?
Line 1, Line 2, Ground, Neutral?
It's customary to put the ground from a ground rod at the disconnect. You woulld then remove it from the inside panel and isolate the ground and neutral in the inside panel.
It may be legal to install the disconnect without the ground rod, but not without the ground. Neutral would pass through in this case.
If you move the ground rod connection, then everything makes sense. Ground and neutral are together in the disconnect and separate in the panel. Remember that the plumbing system should be grounded if copper.
There should be NO fourth wire. You should only have three.
Since erik so graciously decided to give me a red for that one why don't you try and explain a little better what you are doing rdculver.
Maybe I misunderstood. Erik obviously had no clue.
The red (disagree) wasn't warrented for many reasons. One, there may have been an assumption that your talking about what to connect to, but in realitiy there are more than 4 wires if you count the wires from the utility and the wires to the main panel and the ground rod connection and any impliicit connections if metallic conduit is used.
The problem is that the problem stated out being non specific. What wire was the OP having problems connecting.
Assuming always creates problems, it makes an A$$ U ME.
