My 2-1/2 year old daughter is scheduled to have 4 crowns placed on her front teeth in two weeks. I'm very concerned about the procedure as one of her teeth is chipped pretty badly and I'm hoping they can still place the crown. There isn't much of the original tooth left... does anyone know if the crown is still an option?? It was chipped at the time of the initial exam, but has since chipped a little more (she's a very rough and tumble child).

I so want her to look "normal"... this is killing me!

My 4-1/2 year old and 3 year old both had to have this done as well as oral surgery at age 2... (something about their teeth and bad enamel in their case)

My 4-1/2 year old had to have one front tooth pulled because it was too far broken... It still hasn't grown in LOL

A crown can generally only be placed if there is enough of the tooth left to cement the crown to. It's hard to tell you for sure without seeing the child or a very recent xray/photo of the tooth.

Thanks so much for your reply. She has about half of the tooth left. I'm hopeful there is enough to work with. I would say they could successfully mount a crown, but I am also thinking "glass half full" at this point. They did say at our last appointment that she has strong roots and there is no damage there at this point so I would think it would be a shame to pull it.

Try to keep it... she won't get a new front tooth until 7ish... it may need to be replaced from time to time, but a crown can be placed.. if she is a rough player though, chances are it will snap off a few times!
