Last week my apatment building was sold. The next day I was given a 30 day notice to move. What leverage do I have in getting moving costs or compensation to avoid an unlawful detainer. The building is located in Torrance Ca. thanks for your help

If you are on a month to month, then the notice is probably enforceable. If you are in a Lease, then that lease should still be binding.
If you are in a Lease that is not up until more than 30 days from now, let us know and we can look into it further.
Just a note to clarify: What you are going through is not an eviction. If you are on a month-to-month then either party can give notice of non-renewal... so if you're on a month-to-month, then it's legal and normal.
... If your Lease does not end for over 30 days, though, the landlord is not acting legally.
