Confirm monitor's signal cable connections at both monitor and computer. Then, try another monitor if possible to isolate problem to monitor or computer.

Sounds like a screensaver going wonky.

Acer monitors display logo at powerup, so it sounds like it's power cycling or has an electronics issue to me, but I've been wrong before. A little digging turned up Acer LCD Monitor Problem - Why My Monitor Resets & Restarts? - Yahoo! Answers. If that doesn't do the trick and you want to pursue this, I'm still registered as an Acer Authorized Reseller and Channel Partner. If you can provide a model and serial number, I will attempt to get an answer. Or, if it's still in warranty, you can send it in to Acer. If not you can also initiate a repair process from their support website.
