My daughter's birth father is not listed on her birth certificate. I am getting married mar 2009 and my future husband wants to adopt her once we are married. What will we have to do for him to adopt her, and will it be easier since her birth father isn't even listed?

Her birth father needs to sign over his parental rights so that your fiancé can adopt her.

No it is not any easier, in fact it can even make it a little harder, since you may have to prove who the birth father is, unless he signs accepting paternity, and then you have him sign his rights over to allow you to adopt.

I am your daughter so to speak, I had not seen my dads at at since the age of 5 (now 21) when my mum re married, I was then adopted by my step dad.

It cost a lot and took over a year but went through, firstly we applied through our solicitor (I was 15 at the time), I had to speak to a social worker and explain that this is what I wanted. They suggested I wrote a letter to my birth father and explain I wanted to be adopted which I did. Once he received my letter and adoption forms, he had a chace to reply, he then told the solicier if that is what I wanted then it was to all go ahead, around 6 0r 7 months later, we went to a court hearing. My biologcal father did not attned but as he had signed the form, the judge accepted and I was given a new birth certificate.

It cost around 2000 pounds but very worth it, as 2 days before my 16th I had an emergency operation, my mum was 2 hours away from hospital but I needed someone to sign medical consent there and then, thankfully as I was adopted my dad came and pretty much saved my life.

It has also completed me. Everyone assums because I never saw my real dad I would not iss him, but I did I always felt something was missing and the adoption made me feel whole

I agree. Since there is no father, there may have to be DNA tests before the adoption can go through. Naturally, the court will know there has to be a father, despite the space being empty on the BC. So you'll need to try to contact the bio father, see if he'll turn over his parental rights. If so, then it should be OK from there. BUT if he will not sign them over, then you'll need a lawyer and it can be difficult -- but it can be done.
