Owner manual states the Craftsman lawn tractor takes 3.5 pints of oil (almost 2 quarts), which is way above the dip stick full line. Should I put in the amount of oil listed or just fill it to the full line on the dip stick?

I have a 21.5 hp Craftsman LM with BS engine and it takes 2 qts but after I switched over to a Fram filter it takes an additional 22 oz to reach the full mark on the dip stick.Quote:

I would just fill it to the fill line on the dip stick ;)
My Craftsman take about a quart and a half.
If you have an oil filter, the 3.5 pints would be the amount required if you change the filter. Fill to full line only.
