Received an e-mail today via the 'Private Message' function from a new member named 'good2baby'.. .

Here is the content of the message:

"Hello
My name is Claudine Godwill,I saw your profile today at(www.askmehelpdesk.com)and became intrested in you,I will also like to know you the more,and I want you to send an email to my email address so I can give you my picture for you to know whom I am.
Here is my email address EMAIL REMOVED
I believe we can move from here!
I am waiting for your mail to my email address above.
Claudine.
(Remeber the distance or colour does not matter but love matters a lot in life)

Please write to me on my mail box EMAIL REMOVED"

For those unfamiliar with the modus operandi of the 419 Scammer, read the Wikipedia entry for clarification.

As for how I know this is a scam, I received the same message from a 'Hannah Godwill' several months ago and did a bit of research on the name.

Anyhow, here's to hoping he/she/it's stay here is short and that no one is or has been roped in -- Also, feel free to move this post to another forum if appropriate.

This is not unusual. I get them all the time. If you would just forward them to the supermoderators or administration, they will be dealt with appropriately.

I banned two today, always include their AMHD user name that was listed so we can reference them and ban them.

I get at least 3 or more of them a week by email or PM

I too have had several message. I always report them but they do find ways to come back. Curious as to what info they are trying to trick us into divulging but not enough to play along.

Here is a website that has started turning the tables on the scammers. I don't have the time to waste baiting a scammer, but some of the stories are pretty funny to read if you are stuck on hold.

Unless I subscribe to an online newsletter or join a site and get confirmation mail, I encourage all of my friends and other contacts to place a certain word in the title of their subject when mailing to me. I delete all other mail, be it from hotmail, AOL, gmail, msn, or any other - it's deleted before I even think.

I get stupid 'private messages' and don't bother to think who it might be from, I dismiss, delete, report as spam, and that's that.

Some of us have better things to do, but If I did have the time, I would just love to 'bait' some of those s.o.bs... glad that there are some out there who do have the time and inclination.

Holy crap, that's a good idea! Then you could set up a rule in your email client to automatically send those to a folder. I like it!

Those scammers are so annoying! Once a couple of years back, someone called my homephone with a foreign number and when I answered, the lady 'sounded' confused, B7c it was as if I jumped right into a phone conversation... and she told me what number were you told to give me? (broken english)

And I said: well, you called me, and no one told me to give any number.

And then she said something back, but I just hung up on her. I called my mom and told her what had happened and she said that she'd heard on the news a week earlier that it was a scam. Of some sort where they tell you that you've won a cruise, but what they do is they trick you to give them money... or something like that...
