I'm replacing an old bathroom vanity and the old drain does not line up with the new one. It is centered just fine, but needs to come out from the wall an inch or two. I figured it would be easy to just buy a new trap setup and just replace the old one. Only problem is that I can't remove the first section that feeds into the waste pipe that comes out of the wall. I've pulled on it pretty much with all my might and it won't budge. It rotates easily and I can push the piece further in towards the wall though.

How do I get this section of pipe out? Should I cut the PVC waste pipe right behind the fitting that the nut from the first section of the U pipe screws on to and then put on a new one? Thanks .

Is this,(see image) the fitting on the end of the pipe out of the wall?
If so then remove the nut and gasket and pull it out. Good luck, Tom

Yes, that pretty much looks like the fitting on the pipe. I had removed the nut and washer, but something is preventing the pipe from coming out. It sort of seems like there might be a washer glued to the section of the pipe that is within the waste pipe that is preventing it from passing by the end of the fitting with the thread on it. Is that possible?

Unfortunately I have misplaced the cord that connects my camera to my PC, and I'm at work so I can't post a cell phone pic. I was hoping to stop by a store on my way home to pick up what's needed.

I'm not really a weak guy, and I was pulling the heck out of it before. I also don't want to damage the waste pipe by pulling too hard, as it was coming towards me as I was pulling on the piece I need to remove.

This tells me it isn't glued in place. How far out can you pull it?
If you've removed the compression nut and gasket there should be nothing stopping the trap tail from just slipping out of the stub-out. Do you have enough room behind the fitting to cut the fitting out and start from scratch?
The trap tail just slips inside the wall stub-out and is held in place by the compression nut and gasket. Remove them and it should just slip right out. What makes yours different? Regards, Tom

I wish I knew what makes mine different. It really feels like there is something attached to the tail that is preventing it from passing by the fitting as I really can't pull it out at all. The stub-out protrudes from the wall by about 6 or 7 inches, so I would think cutting behind the fitting and starting over would be OK, but I thought I'd see if any of you fine folks had another suggestion.
