I use plain old silicone caulking, Cleo. Just be sure to clean up any excess that squeezes out right away. Use an isopropyl alcohol to clean up after excess has been cleared away. Silicone is also mildew resistant so good choice for backsplash.
Do not let any silicone sqeeze out onto wall if planning to paint as most silicones caulks cannot be painted over.
Mark is correct but I like Daps Kwik Seal Plus. It contains a mildewcide and doubles as caulk and adhesive. Caulk Dap Kwik Seal Plus White Tube - AZ Partsmaster
Acetone is the solvent for silicone.
Sure acetone's great (eccept when absorbed through skin... bad for liver), but not everyone has acetone hanging around in their homes like you do Harold... :p Isopropryl alcohol is usually handy... Have you tried it?
But hey, when Cleo's out getting the silicone she can also get the acetone and latex gloves at the paint department... unless she is allergic to latex and then she'll need to find some that are non-latex... ;)
'Course, she can always go with Bob's suggestion as well!
Have a good day all!

Yes, I have mineral spirits, lacquer thinner, acetone, MEK and nitro. Ever seen what happens when you put nito in a moped? I have no liver, kidneys or heart. I'm just one big old large intestine.
We mixed a lot of stuff back in the day, still kicking. I used to cut asbestos board with a circular saw, no elbow growing out of my head just yet. Had a few accidents.
