Applying for 'leave to remain' from within the UK
I've just got married after receiving a certificate of approval for marriage. Coz my visa had run out by the time of the marriage, am told I can only make a 'leave to remain' application from my home country. However, one lawyer tells me it's possible to apply from within the UK without having to go back to my home country. Is this possible? Am not able to afford the ticket back home at the moment until I save for it. So applying within the UK would save me some much needed money. Please advice. Thanks.

How long have you been married?
How long have you settled in UK?

I've just got married. About a week now. I've been in the UK for seven years.

Sorry I still don't have enough info to answer your question. What kind of visa did you have? At present, you're out of status.. is this correct? What else did the lawyer tell you?

Normally if you have a valid visa, you may do this in UK but if you're out of status, you have to leave to your home country and apply for a proper visa.
