    Heat pump atop working
I have a 7 year old Lennox eletric heat pump that at first kept tripping the circuit breaker. It had just started tripping the breaker this last month. I used to be able to reset the breaker. Now when I try to reset it, it goes back to the off position. One HVAC personnel came out and said there was nothing wrong with the air conditioner unit. Another company said the compressor was bad. Another company said it seemed like the circuit breaker is bad. I had the circuit breaker replaced, but it is still doing the same thing. Every time I try to reset it, it goes back to the off position. The outside unit will not come on. Does anybody have any suggestions

First thing you need to do is make sure the circuit breaker that is trippin is the right size for the outside unit, this is list information on the outside unit nameplate, make sure it matches the units minimum and/or maximum fuse size. If that doesn't help the problem then there is a short to ground somewhere in the circuit. The short could be anywhere between the circuit breaker and outdoor unit. Most companies offer a 30 day warranty on service so call back the company that said it was the breaker if the circuit breaker is the correct size.

The only way to check that unit is with an amprobe, if you want to repair it yourself. Then if it's the compressor, a service contractor will have to do the work. This is not a do-it-yourself job. I suggest you hire a reputable company to check, repair, and warranty there work.

It sounds like you have a dead short, any good service person can check the system for a ground with an ohm meter, very easy to do. Call a different A/C company , good luck, Mike
