I had a toilet overflow in my master bathroom. My garden tub as well as my toilet was full of dirty water. Now I have a nasty smell in the room. I did get a lot of the water up. I plan on removing the carpet but in the mean time what can I do about the smell?

There is nothing you can do in the meantime. Remove the carpet and clean everything with a solution of water and bleach to disinfect. Then I would wait till dry and do it again.

I always question why folks put carpet in a bathroom to begin with. It along with the padding must come out immediately or things will be much worse within 48 hours. You can not clean sewage from carpet pad nor get it dry befoire mold will start to grow.

Especially carpet around the toilet area. I never put carpet there. Not everyone hits the mark and how do you get the urine out of the carpet after someone widdles on it inadvertently. I would rather have something to clean thoroughly around the toilet.

Ozone is an incredible treatment to kill the germs in the air. I have used it successfully in so many different air treatment applications. It kills the germs, and will remove the odors. You can rent a shock treatment unit. If you are unable to find one, let me know, maybe I can get you one to rent for a few days. The results are amazing.

Al you are right about ozine but there is sewage soaked through the carpet and well into the padding. It will take more than an ozonator to get this room back up and running. However, on the other hand by brother-in-law had a gallon of milk spill in his new cars back carpet. The dealership did use an ozonator so maybe its stronger than I thought. Tell us more about these units, where to rent. How much. etc...

If she cleans the carpet just because it needs to be cleaned. Then, she uses ozone to treat it, it will knock the odor out. Especially, if she can peel the carpet back where it was wet, and shoot ozone under it.

Let me explain how I got into ozone air treatment. I had a pipe leak that flooded my floor and got all underneath my cabinets and laminate flooring. Within a day it was smelling musty even though I started immediately with fans etc. I had been using ozone in my water treatment company for years at that point. I couldn't exactly peel up my laminate flooring, as it was glued together and laid on top of a concrete pad. I put together an ozone for air treatment and blew it underneath of my flooring. I let it run inside of my cabinets for 30 minute intervals. It knocked the smell out.

We get a fair amount of mold and mildew due to high humidity in FL. I had a little bit of musty smell in my air vents. So, I decided to "shock treat" the house by putting it by my air intake. One day when we were going to be gone (my family and the dog), I put my a/c fan on constantly, and let the ozone machine run for an hour. It was very clean and no more musty smell. A few months later, the smell started to come back due to near constant running of a/c. I did the same thing. It is so much more effective than sprays etc.

I bought a used truck. The dealer had put that nasty smelling cover-up auto freshener in there. A few days later, after the truck sat out in the sun, I found out why. There was a rancid smoke smell in there that apparently was not cigarettes. I put the ozone unit in there for 30 minutes, and ran the a/c blower on max/high to circulate through the ducts. The odor never came back.

If I was still in the real estate rental business, I would love these things. I sure would have liked to have known about it back when I had a bunch of rentals. Car dealers use them, and hotels use them.

I have a distributor that I buy these from. I only carry the shock treatment unit. It is an 8 gram per hour unit. I sell them for six hundred dollars. As I said, I do water treatment with ozone all of the time. It is very effective.

There is a web-site that someone can rent one. They have one for $60 for 2 days. I guess I could do the same, but would require a $400 refundable deposit. The web address that you can go to is ozonesupplies.com. The smallest unit for rent is the omz-3400. It is more than sufficient for shock treatment of most homes.

I know I keep trying to give greenies to the experts on here and it says I need to spread more around. But, there are some great people on these forums.

Once you try ozone treatment, you'll probably do like me and say something like I did... why didn't I know about this a long time ago? So far it almost seems to have been a technology reserved for professionals like fire restoration, hotels, car dealers etc. But, given just a few precautions, ozone is very safe so that anybody could use it. And, it is eco-friendly. It draws very little power. And, it reverts back to oxygen in a few minutes.

I have a technician reworking my web-site now. You can bet it will have ozone on there.

My wife is the kind of person whio can smell mold in a hosital operating rom, always telling be the basement smells bad or the master bath. I smell nothing. A friend used to sell these small home ozone air purifiers, I always thought it was just a scam but now am looking him up.

The small ones usually aren't worth much. I prefer to shock treat instead of trying to let one run all of the time. It is hard to tell when you get too much, which is why I don't like them to run constantly. Ozone is not healthy for us to breathe constantly. Of course most of those little ones really don't put out enough to do any harm. That is why they aren't very effective too!

I haven't figured out how to do that yet. You can use the e mail address anyway if you want. I just wanted to avoid giving it to those junk mail fishing bots! They scan for particular things and pull them off the web. By listing it the way that I did, it would take a human to pick it up instead of a computer. Or, so I'm told! I'll probably get tons of spam now. :)
