    Job ethics
I was recently released from a job of 22 years because of a personality conflict with a supervisor, I was then hired in the same industry as a seasonal employee with the oppurtunity to be promoted.
Both places are right next door to each other and higher ups know each other. After looking at the list of employees they chose from I was clearly the most qualified, they had to chose from about 60-70 employees and promoted 25. Do you think I was let go because of the incident next door, and what would you do?

Just a thought about this. In my experience over the years dealing with numerous corporations, sometimes when the economy experiences turmoil these companies will shake things up. Try to bring in fresh ideas and faces thinking that will help bring in new business, while at the same time bringing in less qualified and experienced people to reduce their payroll costs and the enormous costs of health care with older people. This may be the case with the company you were with. But you also may have gotten the job next door because these two higher ups know each other. Upper management doesn't always have the last word on who to keep and who to let go in economic situations either. Sometimes it's the people who do not have direct contact with employees who make the decisions.
