I have a Delta Make bath tub sprout. It has small opening at the bottom at the wall end.
But I didn't see any screww to remove , which was mentioned in various web pages.
Instead I only see some some white thing. THought it is some some white material used to cover scree and try to rub it off using a screw drive but it doesn't look coming off easily. Where is the scree that I should remove. I tried looking for the scre using some toy mirror , I didn't see any screw.
Not all tub spouts have a screw that holds them onto the pipe, some are screwed on to the pipe with pipe threads, so try turning the spout counter-clock-wise to see if it will unscrew.
I believe most Delta's are screw ons (meaning your would have to turn it counter clockwise to get it off). It would only have a set screw in there if it was clamping on to a raw piece of copper tubing, otherwise there would be a brass nipple coming out of the wall that it screws onto
The white material I mentioned is nothing but some caulk like thing. I think it is used to seal the sprout to waill ( like a liner ). I was able to remove the whilte material but still didn't see screw.Quote:

The only delta spouts I have ever seen are screw on ones, that does not mean that there aren't others out there, but if there is no set screw underneath then it has to be screwed on to pipe threads.
If it is on with a set screw and you turned it somewhat, you would hear that set screw scraping against the copper as it turns.
This thing is going to be on in one of the following ways:
Set screwed onto raw copper tubing, in which case turning it too hard could distort the tube.
There could be a male adapter at the end of copper tubing that it is screwed onto, you could break the solder joints
If it's a brass nipple (which I think it probably is) the worst you could do is end up unscrewing the nipple from the bath/shower unit behind the wall, which would could just thread back in

Just because you have a Delta faucet does not mean that the spout is the original, It could have been replaced with a different brand sometime over the years. You may have to use a hacksaw to saw off the old one. Saw it about four inches from the wall that way you can see if you have a pipe that comes out to the nose of the spout or if it is connected closer to the wall.

Thanks to all of you. I just used little bit more force and I was able to remove the eolo done. WHat happened this old one also has a scre on it. But instead of tha tbeing on the bottom, facing the little opening of the sprout , oit was exactaly on the opposite . Because of which it is not visible. How ever looks like it was never used. Finally , I was able to remove it by rotating the sprout anti clockwise. I don't know this site is so useful.Quote:

Don't forget to sand any burrs off the end of the copper pipe and lube the end before installing the spout. Good luck, Tom

It will keep any moisture from getting behind the spout if you use some caulk between the wall and the spout, just use enough to seal the space. Remember that caulk will get a dirty look after it has been there for a long while so if the spout fits close to the wall only put caulk on the back of the spout so it does not show around the edge of the spout.Quote:

I used plumbing tape on the copper pipe , but still it leaks. What could be the reason ?
Do I have to change the sprout? Looks like the sprout is correct one for this copper pipe .
Remove the spout clean the threads and use a little bit more tap I would say 4-6 turns will be OK, install the spout tighten it by hand if you feel it is loose then something that you can twist it one more turn, Good Luck.

Did you remove the burr from the front edge of the copper piupe and put a little silicone jel on the pipe? It sounds like the "O" ring hit a burr or rough spot and got rolled out of position. Take the spout off and check to see if the "O" ring's in its slot. If not put it there and reinstall. Good luck, Tom
