I have a question that hopefully can get answered here.

Quite some time ago I noticed that from time to time I get what looks like a rash on the tip of my penis. It never hurts, but it just looks odd to me. Just recently I've been to a STD clinic and got tested, but all the test came back negative and showed that I haven't contracted an STD. So I'm wondering if anyone here (provided you're a doctor) can tell me what this is or if anyone has/had the same problem.

I don't know if this is of any help, but the doctor that I saw put me on this antibiotic called "Ciprofloxacin" and I'm wondering if maybe this is a condition due to the taking of this medication. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I would have asked the doctor that I'm seeing, but he's not in his office tomorrow and it's Labor Day weekend and I was afraid of not getting an answer until 5 days from now.

Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic that belongs to the family of medications known as quinolones. It is used for the treatment of infections caused by certain bacteria. It is most commonly used to treat infections of the skin, sinuses, bone, lung, ear, abdomen, and bladder. It can also be used to treat some sexually transmitted infections, some forms of infectious diarrhea, and typhoid fever.

If the rash was caused by this antibiotic then it would have appeared on other parts of your body.

Diagnosis can't be given without actually seeing what the rash looks like. Your best bet is, as you say, seeing the doctor again and it the rash isn't bothering you then wait.

Oh, I'm aware of what Ciprofloxacin is. The doctor who prescribed it to me told me what it is and what's it for. I thought that I would note that I am taking it because I was curious as to whether this rash could be a side effect to taking this medication. And the reason I ask this is because when I saw the doctor today, I didn't have this rash. But once I got home I took the first dose, a few hours later I noticed it when I went to use the restroom.

I'm also asking because I'm curious as to whether this is a common occurrence for anyone who is healthy and free of any disease in the genital area. I thought that maybe it could be a form of HPV, but I'm told (and researched it) that HPV is near impossible to detect in men and that, unless it's genital warts, that it's not much for me to be concerned about. This symptom didn't occur until I started having sex and I have been told that it is normal, but I find it hard to believe that a rash-like symptom on the penis is normal.

You could have a yeast infection, called candida, contracted from a person who has a yeast infection and symptoms are redness on the head of the penis and small bumps. No, you are right, having this rash like symptom is not normal from having sex.

Candida is also fairly common in diabetics.

Thanks for the help. This is actually the same thing that my friends (who are nurses) have been telling me for a while, but doctors have been denying it so much that I didn't know what to do. I thought it to be weird that doctors would be so quick to dismiss a yeast infection because the girl that I had sex with back then had a yeast infection / UTI. I wasn't aware of this until after our sexual encounter. Anyhow, I was wondering if you knew if I should stop taking the Cipro or of anything that I could use to treat this problem.

Oh, I've also been tested to see if I was diabetic and the test came out negative.

The test for diabetes is a no brainer, it is a blood glucose test to see where your sugar is at in your body. Sugar is a yeast infection progenator.

Why didn't you say that in the first place, that some had suggested it was caused by a yeast infection. This is the problem with a question asked on this forum (:)) we have to pry all the information out of a poster in order to get down to the root cause of the post.

Just keep taking the antiobotics and next time use a condom with the particular sexual partner. Don't blame her though because not very many people would realize what a yeast infection can do, but she should be doing something to so it won't go further.

However, uninrary tract infection. I hope she isn't the same partner because that sounds like problems, seeking help, UTI are painful when they get going, so she must realize what's going on. I hope I am not stepping on toes and you know this person well, but if you do, you had better talk to her about her internal health.

No, no. You misunderstood me. I've told this to all the doctors that have seen me for testing, but they all dismissed it because they say that yeast infections are too rare in males and that I more than likely don't have it without testing me for it.

And, Yes, I should have shared that with you in the first place. But I can't help but blame her because she was aware that she had this problem and didn't inform me of it until after we had intercourse. That's why I'm no longer seeing her. I tried to get a hold of her to see if she was taking anything for the yeast infection / UTI, but I can't get a hold of her. As for how well I knew her: well, apparently I didn't know her well enough. But I would still like to get a hold of her so that I can find out if she has any problems with her medical history.

It seems that I'm getting more help from you and my friends than from the doctors who are actually seeing and testing me. I'm here for answers to my problem. After you finish the antiobotics, finish seeing this one partner, then I am sure you will have no more problems. And remember always to wear condoms when in an intimate relationship. Never use anything with sugar, honey, or any sweet accoutrements in sex play where it involves oral sex.

Enjoy yourself sexually and always be safe.

Could be a sign of thrush which is more common in women but men can get this,especially if your partner if you have one has it.

c'mon tickle I don't know what you are.. but your posts are stupid enough so can't be a doctor. Well, for the first post ciprofloxacin and all quinolones can cause rash on some ppl's gentalia more so on glans. It is not painful in the beginning but starts to hurt as the time passes. The treeatment is to stop taking that antibiotic group even refrain from topical. And second foolish info you gave ,would like to correct that Rash is not a symptom of diabetes .Thhe symptom is actually balanitis which are small pustules in between your fold of skin and glans.
