I recental accepted a job out of the country On aug. 12 of this month. I called my landlord the next day left a message to give 30 days notice even though I was leaving the country in less than 21 days. She says I have to pay for septembers rent... MY renewal date isn't until the September 15. Do I still have to pay September's rent? If so why? I'm in Ohio

Ok. Your rent is due on September 15? Typically your notice would be covering the following rental period. So, if you gave 30 day notice on Aug. 12, it would be notice from August 15 - September 15.

Do you have a written lease, and have you read it?

Also, YOU MUST DO THIS TYPE OF THING IN WRITING!! A message on their answering machine is as good as NOTHING!

Read your lease, I believe you may be OK on this if your rental perid in fact runs from the 15th to the 15th. If your rent is due on the 1st of the month, then the manager would be correct. You'd owe September.
