By "significant macro system", do you mean what is the major influence on today's family life? Or the most important thing in today's family life?

If I understand your question correctly, working full time jobs impacts families more than anything else. Many married couples now work full time, both partners. In just a single family, head of household, that person sometimes works two jobs; making $8 an hour. The family is really hurting in these environments, and that is the most significant, major issue in families.
