Hello, newbie here :) . I have a question about replacing two incadecent fixutres in a kitchen and replacing them with MR16 low voltage lights. The current lncadecent fixutres (2) have two 100 watt bulbs each in them and I would like to replace them with MR16 12v 50watt low voltage fixtures. Assuming the circuit is at capacity (for argument sakes) how many low voltage fixtures could I use in place of the two incadecent fixtures.

Two 50 watt MR16 lamps will equal 1-100 watt incandescent. A watt is a watt, no matter the voltage. A transformer will draw a bit more due to losses, but are negligible.

Be sure to use dimmable units if you want them to be dimmed, and the dimmer must be compatible, which most are but just to be sure, check.

Thanks tkrussell for reply. I guess I was under the impression that because they were low voltage they used less power therefore you could have more low voltage over incandescent.

Power in the true sense is the value of watts.

Is a product of the volts times amps, which are inversely proportional, one rises the other falls, but the watts remain constant.

Your interpretation is common to lay people.
