How long are genital warts a risk?
I've been seeing this girl for a couple months and we're getting closer and closer to getting... closer.

However, I'm somewhat worried. She was molested as a very young child and contracted genital warts. The doctors burned them off and she hasn't had an outbreak since, but I've read that the virus never leaves the body.

I've been researching online and can't find anything to tell me what the risk of infection is from sexual contact with somebody that hasn't had warts in over 15 years.

www.emedicinehealth.com click on 'genital warts' to the left of the screen, item l, and you will find out all you want to know about genital warts, and probably some things you didn't want to know. In any event, it will answer your question.

I've been there already. It didn't answer my question. You were not helpful.

So do you have to be knocked over the head, readysteady. Herpes virus NEV ER goes away, whether she has warts or not. She can have e and OUTBREAK any time. Your disagree was not warranted. YOU HAVE TO READ EVERYTHING AND I DID READ YOUR QUESTION.

SHE HAS THE HERPES VIRUS, IT IS CONGATIOUS.

Use a condom and be safe.

The information in that link is vague and sometimes contradictory.

Genital warts may go away on their own in about 10%-20% of people over a period of three to four months.
Go away? So... does that mean everything is cool then?

Transmission of genital warts can be decreased if you use condoms and refrain from sexual activity until therapy is completed.
Well.. therapy was completed a long time ago. So that means...

I understand that the virus never goes away. My question was concerning whether it would go to me. Nothing in that link helps me determine the risk of sexual activity with somebody who was infected 17 years ago, got treated, and hasn't had an outbreak since.

I wanted to know if those factors lowers the chances of contracting it, or are the chances are the same regardless?

I'm assuming at this point that "The virus is contagious regardless of how long ago she contracted it or how many outbreaks she's had" is the answer to that question.
I'm not sure why you didn't say that in the first place.
