My cd drive spins the cd but.
I have a windows xp and I'm not really sure if my cd drive is brokend because when I put in a cd, I can hear it spin but after a long time of spining, it won't show the cd in my computer. What do I need to do or go to re-install my cd drive?? Please help!! :(

Have you checked to make sure disc is not too scratched and is clean

Have you tried more than 1 disc, try music cd, movie dvd if you have
Basically, try other cds and dvd to see if this happens with everything

    Also, just check device mgr.
Start, settings, control panel, system icon, hardware tab and click device mgr and see if any yellow marks listed there

Well I already tried all kinds of cds new and old but still nothing. And I went to " start, settings, control panel, system icon, hardware tab and click device mgr and see if any yellow marks listed there " but no yellow or any color marks were there:( :( :(

At this point, see if you can get access of another cd rom and replace the one with problem and if another one works, you know it would be your drive

If the same thing happens in a known working drive then is would be another issue

I suspect that the cd rom (lens) went "bad" - would have to replace cd rom at that point

Yes the cd rom is just hardware and would have nothing to do with the operating system
