My Kenmore washer does not kick into the rinse cycle and I have to bang the door shut to get it to switch. Weird, huh, but my only resolve.

I do not have an owners manual for my Kenmore washer because it is a reburbished washer with a whirpool tub. And the store went out of business of course. Anyway, I was told the belt must have come off, and I can't get the back off to find the belt. Many problems, the bottom has rusted and I can't get the scres off there. I got the top part screws off. Nothing is ever easy for me.

I am going to buy a new washer after this traumatic experience... and I heard Maytags are good, and I don't know what price a good deal would be? But for now I need to use this piece of junk.

Sounds more like a problem with door switch. Is this a top loader or front loader. Do you know where the door switch is.

This is a top loader. What's a door switch? Does it have 2 screws attached to the right side of the top of the washer?

Yes, its possible my door switch needs cleaning or adjusting. I will try that. Thanks

Does you washer lid have a little prong that goes in a hole when the lid is closed. If so, that's your door switch. It prevents the washer from running in the spin cycle while the door or lid is open. Stick a small screw driver in the hole, press down the spring to see if the washer will run in the spin cycle. If you don't have that kind of switch look for a small switch, some where (probably on the back edge of the lid), that tell the washer the lid is closed. To repair or replace you will probably have to pull up the top of the washer. It can be a little challenging to figure out how to open the cabinets of appliances sometimes because the manufacture hides the fasteners so well. The tops of most washers are remove by prying gently between the top and the front panel. The top should pop up and be hinged at the back. This should give you access to the door switch.
