I have a 100 amp panel siemens I need to upgrade to a 200 amp panel strictly for insurance purposes. I do not need more circuits. Can I just remove my 100 amp breaker and replace it with a 200 amp breaker? It is removable in this panel. Any possible problems? Is there any differences in the 200 amp panel besides number of spaces? I have 200 amp service.

Wire size and insulation heat tolerance of branch circuits, (ampacity) is of concern. Not so much now, but in future. If the mod isn't certified officially, and something happens, your insurance may not cover it. Just a thought... please take care. Good luck...

No, you cannot just change the breaker.

In order to upgrade the panel, you must first contact the power company to upgrade their service to the facility.

Also, the entire panel would have to be replaced with a main panel box designed for 200 amps.

I very strongly suggest that you contact a licensed electrician for this type of work.

and why is the insurance company requiring you to upgrade to a 200A service?

Did they do a demand load calculation--later finding that the service was undersized?

If you have a 200A service why do you only have a 100A panel? :confused:
