Lightscribe only refers to the ability to use the drives laser to burn a label on the topside of the DVD instead of sticking a label to the finished disk. It's a pretty cool idea, and the finished DVD looks highly professional.

However, you have to PURCHASE Lightscribe CD/DVD blanks to do this. The topside of regular CD/DVD disks are not designed to accept laser etching normally.

But you CAN use regular cheap CD/DVD blanks to burn the data side... you just have to label them yourself the old way(s).

    So, Lightscribe drive:
Regular CD/DVD = burns data side only
Lightscribe CD/DVD = data side AND label side can be burned

I know it goes without saying, but you do have to turn the Lightscribe disks upside down in the drive to burn the label side, the laser is still only on the bottom side of the drive itself.
