I have an 8 year old Amana bottom freezer with an ice maker. The ice maker itself seems to be covered with a paper-like substance that is coming off of the metal. It's beige in color and I thought it might be mineral build up and was not concerned. Now, however, I'm seeing bits of metal in the ice drawer and in the ice. Where the "paper" has come off the metal is covered with a powdery feeling residue. I have well water (that is softened) but also use an R/O system to filter the water before it hits the icemaker.
My owner's manual is not helpful at all. Any clues what is going on?
