    Identity Theft?
I live in New Jersey and went to file for Welfare to get medical assistance to get surgery on my knee since I went to the hospital and they think tore my ACL,PCL and meniscis. I have no insurance so I needed Medicaid. The In-take Worker told me that someone else was using my Social Security Number and that I should check into it. Is this considered Identity Theft? And what should I do to take care of this? Also is there a way a lawsuit might be involved? I was able to get the persons last name who used my Social Security Number, What should I do?

    Hello again, J:

Write the SS administration. What would you sue them for?

Identify theft with a social insurance number is the worst kind of fraud because that number holds the key to everything about you.

Did you ask how the intake worker how she knew your number had been used.

I would report this immediately to the police and especially if you know the name of the person who used it. Sue them. I don't think that is an option.

I would think you would know that would be the first thing to do without asking someone else what to do.

Report it to the police and the SSA.

Identity theft can take on several forms. In it most benign, someone is using it simply to get work. In its worst, someone is using it to get credit in your name.

In any case, this is a criminal, not civil issue. So there is nothing to sue about.

You should, immediately pull your credit reports from the thre main agencies.
