Air cond unit turns on on its own
    Hi everyone,
I am new to the site and recently I have been having trouble with my AC (LUX 511) unit. It turns on by itself even if its off according to the thermostat in the middle of the night. I replaced the batteries on the thermostat but that didn't do much. Should I replace the thermostat? Thanks

The thumb switch might be just a niche off the mark that shuts the unit off and it still reads the temperature to bring it back on.
If the switch itself is suspect, try moving it a bit further in its travel. Then cause the unit to come on by reducing the temperature setting.

If this doesn't work, then simply raise the temperature setting so that the room temperature is lower than what the setting is and it refuses to come on.

You may have a intermittent short on the low voltage side of the system . Is the outside unit running when this happens?

    Thank Carol,
I don't think it's the tumb switch because it is a digital unit. Thanks very much for your help.

    Thanks T-top,
The outside unit doesn't turn on when this happens.
