I installed a remote dvd player to an older cpu and a window pops up telling me I need a faster ethernet port. What must I consider to upgrade?

shows that the data rate for DVD video is 8 mb/s. This is at the limit of 10 base T.
100 mb/sec would then be the minimum speed.

CPU speed also enters into the equation. There is probably some minimum specs required.

If your network is small, you could try upgrading to gigabit ethernet.

Wireless b won't cut it. G should work. N is probably faster.

Some systems distribute video over gigabit ethernet. They also want two separate connections. A 100 base T link and a 1000 base T link.

Why would a DVD player be connected via ethernet? Are you sure it wasn't a USB port?

This sounds odd to me too. If it was shared out on another computer, then this may be the case but a second computer was not mentioned. I would also suspect that this is a USB connection and that the old computer supports only USB version 1.x and not 2.0.

Exactly, sounds like he has USB 1.x and needs 2.0
