    Cartalige piercing
I want to get my cartalige pierced, but I am afraid that it will hurt, or it will get infected. I really want to, but how much does it hurt and what are the chances it will get infected? Is it true that it hurts the ear to shower after? And what is the best way to care for it after? I really apreciate your help! :) :D

You're talking about your upper ear? It's a bit painful, and hard to sleep on, but the pain doesn't last weeks, just a few days, as I recall. I had my ear pierced in the top about 12 years ago, and I've never had a problem with infection or any troubles at all. I used listerine to keep it clean, best to choose the golden color one, rather than the blue one, because the blue shows up on fair skin. Anyhow, I put Listerine on it several times a day at first, with a q-tip and then less and less until it was mostly healed. Good luck. So many people have this done, it must have a rare occurrence of problems, you know?

I won't lie- Cartilage can hurt like a . I have 2 in one ear, 1 in another, and my septum (which is also cartilage).

If you have a decent pain tolerance, and someone who is professional and knows what they are doing, you should be fine. Chances are, your adrenaline from the excitement with cancel out the pain, or make it lesser. If you are having it done with a needle (I suggest this, as "guns" are dangerous) consider having it pierced at 16 gauge instead of the standard 14 to soften the blow. The pain will only last at most a few days, and it will be dull and achy at best.

To keep it clean, DO NOT use listerine as stated above! Get yourself a good antibacterial soap, such as Dial, and gently cleanse it in the shower in the morning, and then at night also.

Avoid getting hair products or makeup on or near it for 4-6 weeks. If it does happen to get infected, you can buy a bottle of standard peroxide for cuts and scrapes and dilute a capful of it in 1/4 cup of water and dab with a q-tip, or mix sea salt with some warm water and soak it for a few minutes every day until the infection subsides.

    I hope this helped!
