I have a ceiling fan that was installed professionally 4 years ago. Recently, I noticed that the fan was running on slow. I could switch to high and it would stay for a few minutes and then go back to slow speed. This was a remote Hampton Bay.

I decided to replace the fan thinking it could be a problem with the motor. I installed the new fan. It does the same thing. Runs on high for a few minutes before downgrading itself to slow.

Another strange part: I have it on two switches. One controls the fan and the other the light. When the first fan started slowing down, the switch that controlled the fan stopped functioning (ie would not cut the fan on or off). However, the second switch cut the fan and light both on and off.

I did replace the switches to make sure there was not a problem with them. No luck... same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

BTW: the new fan is a Hunter Grand vista

How is it wired? A remote can cannot correctly be wired to two switches.

I'm not sure the exact details of how the electrician did this. He did have one switch that controlled fan off/on and then one switch that controlled light on/off. This setup worked for the last several years but now does not. I would gladly move to a one switch configuration if that would resolve the issue but I'm not sure how to do this. Thanks for any insight.

We will need to know what wires are in the ceiling and what they are connected to, and what wires are at the two controls and what they are connected to. A volt meter will also help.
