Your Democrat congress at work for you
Democrats Pushing for Four Day Work Week for Federal Bureaucrats [Mark Hemingway]

    Their justification? High gas prices:

    Quote:

The high cost of fuel makes the four-day week all the more important, [Majority Leader Steny] Hoyer's letter said. "In these times of high gasoline prices, I believe the federal government should do all it can to ensure that federal agencies and departments are appropriately reducing gasoline consumption. This goal can be accomplished with the adoption of personnel policies to limit unnecessary commuting."

So Pelosi shuts the place down and Congress skips town without passing an energy bill. Now Democrats are pushing for a four day work week for gas relief for federal employees, even as they've refused to do anything to provide relief for ordinary Americans. Republicans are hitting back — Republican Study Group Chairman Jeb Hensarling issued the following statement:

The Democrat solution to high gas prices – a four day work week for themselves and federal bureaucrats. Brilliant! While the Speaker of the House is off jet setting to promote her book, the Majority Leader is figuring out how to get more time off. Americans struggling to pay their bills and fill their gas tanks deserve so much better from their elected officials.

People across the country are begging for Congress to work on a common sense energy plan that will lower costs at the pump. For months, we've made clear that we need conservation, but not just conservation. We need renewable energy, but not just renewable. We need alternatives, but not just alternatives. We need to produce energy in America for Americans so we can drive down the cost of gas and increase our energy independence. Though Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Hoyer continue to block our efforts, Republicans will keep fighting for a comprehensive, common sense energy plan that includes all of those goals.

I think they could save a whole lot for the American tax payer by staying away. However ;they should've been called back into special session to deal with the comprehensive energy independence and to issue a bi-partisan resolution of outrage over the invasion ;rape and plunder of Georgia by Ivan .

It's not too late. Next week would be a good time :)

The Democrat lead Congress is bonkers most of the time, but I'm all for working 4-10s' instead of 5-8's. It would provide many of us with more time with our families. I've worked those hours years ago and loved it.

I guess they will have to do a stimulous package for all the cooks, waiters, and dish washers that will be negatively impacted.

It's more than just Congress. Some States are giving it consideration, including McCain's own Arizona.

""Over 70 percent of registered voters in Arizona support that," said pollster Bruce Merrill. "When we looked at the demographics, it crossed all political and demographic lines. In other words, almost everybody we talked to in Arizona is strongly in favor of that proposition.""

I'd be happy with a 5 day work week.

I'd like it, too, but it takes a really big set to propose something like this for the feds while congress went on vacation instead of addressing energy problems for the rest of us.

It would eventually effect everyone and give us, (you and I) and all non-government employees, the leverage in presenting our employers to do the same. Most all fairly large companies and corporations can easily make the transformation. It may be a little more difficult for smaller companies and would take some tinkering. Independent contractors and the self-employed pretty much already set their own hours and usually work on deadlines regardless. Trust me. When I worked 4-10's it was the best thing. Trust me you get more time with your family, you'd love it during football season, and you get more of those honey-do chores done around the house. So the wife's happy also.

Hey, if it makes the wife happy then I'm all for it :)

Was last night a turning point? The Boys didn't lose to Houston in the preseason for a change.

Yeah 4 day work week but you need to work 60 hours a week to be able to afford anything. Good the Federal Bureaucrats can go to 4 days a week they already do too much damage with the hours they do put in!

Sapphire, has a good point. The average American is more budget conscious than in decades. Cost of living wage increases simply have not kept up with the necessary family expenses.
