    Java Help!
    Hi Experts,

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right category, but I sure hope someone can still help me.

I'm not able to view Java applets. I've downloaded the most recent version of JVM. I have version 1.4.1. I've tried changing some settings (like enabling Java in my internet options) but nothing has worked. I've been to Java websites, and tried everything it says to do in the troubleshooting section, but it still doesn't work. I'm pretty much just wanting to play some games, and all I see on the screen is a rectangle with small shapes in the top left corner. Please help me! I appreciate it so much.

What OS do you use? What browser / version are you using? Did you get the java from this site:

Hi Corey, Thanks for your reply. Sorry that I didn't think of including my OS, and such. I'm using Windows 98, and IE 5. And yes, that's the site I downloaded it from.

    Thanks so much!

You really should not have a problem with that OS / IE version. Have you considered upgrading to IE 5.5 or 6.0? Have you also gone to the Windows update site to make sure all the current patches / updates have been applied to your system?

The 1.4.1 version of java might cause your Win98 to hang also.

    Hello again,

I tried upgrading to IE 6, but when I click on the link to download the file, the only thing that comes up is a broken piece of film..?

    I really appreciate your help!

First go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to make sure that you have the current patches / updates for Win98. This should also allow you to download the IE as well that is best suited for your computer.

I went to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ but after the 2nd security warning popped up (and I click "Yes") the "You have performed an illegal operation..." error message comes up. I shut my computer down, and tried it again, but it still won't work. Sorry that this is becoming a hassle! I'm ready to get a new computer!  :)

    No problem. Try this first:
    1. Go to Start - Settings - Control Panel.
    2. Choose Add/Remove Programs.
    3. Locate Microsoft internet explorer & choose remove. Now Choose Repair.

Then see if you can access that link. If not - empty your internet cache & run a scandisk - then try the site again.
