Hi everyone,

My baby girl ( age 8) just was diagnosed with diabetes. I am worried, sick and heartbroken for my baby girl.

My husband and I just noticed that she was drinking a lot more water, and losing a little weight, She is a Maltese and was 10 pounds and now is 7.

We are going back to the doctors to learn how to manage this disease and how to administer insulin.

Everyone says she will be okay, but as her Mommy, my heart is just so shattered for her.
I just worry that there is an underlining problem, causing the diabetes. I will be asking the vet when we go back.

Does anyone know or have a pet with diabetes?

Update - my little girl is vomiting a little and now denying food. We had an appt for tomorrow with the vet, but my hubby and I are taking her in tonight.

Worried sick.

Allheart, I wish the best for you little baby. I am sorry she has to go through this, but she has the best mom in the world... that means she will be happy in anything she has to go through!

Start = here is the latest... and I love you...

Baby girl had to be admitted to the hospital as she has Diabetic Ketoacidosis. Which is a critical form of diabetis, which left untreated could result in death. Her body was trying to make up for the lack of insulin and there are things in her urine that must be flushed clean and then we can begin treatment of her diabetis.

I'm just a tad upset at the doc who diagnosed her on Wed and told us not to come back until Friday as he would not be back until then.

She could have died by Friday!! But, actually I am counting it all as a blessing, because last night we got our normal Vet, he didn't even charged us, and told us she needs to be hospitalized. The hospital was only about 2 miles away.

So, baby girl, has her special bed with her, and one of her dollys.

What made me smile as we were leaving, and she was in the back, I heard her let out one little bark, which she never does. I turned to the entire staff, and said that is her, she wants something, and Nurse Johnathan went back to see her, and all she wanted was for him to pay attention to her.

I am praying she will be okay, but that mostly she is not suffering. The doc will be calling us between 8 and 9 this morn.

I am so sad for you three, I know how much you and your husband love her.
My husbands aunt has a cat with diabetes and she has had it for many years. His aunt gives her insulin shots, I believe two a day and she also has to feed her several times a day to keep her levels regulated.
I will keep you three in my thoughts and hope for the best. Try not to let her know how worried you are, you know how sensitive they are and how they can pick up on our fears.

We got a call from the hospital that Kara passed away. We rushed to go see her
And she looked beautiful and at peace.

My heart and my husbands is shattered, but our baby did not suffer.

Sorry for your loss. I put this question on the watch list, primarily because I didn't know what to say early on. I have been warned about the seriousness of Ketoacidosis because it could happen with certain X-ray dyes and a drug I'm taking combined with diabetes. A fruit smelling breath supposedly is a good symptom. One of the first signs of diabetes is increaded urination.

Another dog, will never be the same, but at least allow yourself a little time to grieve,

Allheart I am so sorry, I know how deeply you loved her and how much she will be missed. Try to take comfort in the fact that you loved her and gave her the best life that was humanly possible. You know that she felt how much her mommy and daddy loved her. I hope that you can find a little comfort, knowing that you are not alone in your grief.

You all are so beautiful - and I thank you for it.

This is all still a major shock to me. She as always on my lap, so I even condisered her a memember of AMHD.

I know there are blessings in this somewhere, all the docs and staff are completely baffled as to why she passed. With what she had, with aggression treatement, should should have came around.

They said she was wagging her tail all the way up till 1100 at night and at 1 am, she laid her head out to die.

We are numb, in shock, miss one of the very best things that has ever happened to us.

The doc is turning this case upside down and inside out, as everyone of them can not believed she past. They keep calling us. But we told them, if you could learn anything from this, to help another little fur baby, that would do our hearts some good.

Love you Start as well. The reminders are all over and both our hearts are so broken.
My husband said she was spared from having to get a needle twice a day for the rest of her life, that she was just too special for that.

The shock, the heart break, her last action was wagging that beautiful tail - and then off to forever sleep she went.

I love her so much, I love you all so much, and I love God with all my heart, because
He is watching over all of us.

I think the incredible sadness that we feel, is so deserving for our special angel.

I know so may people suffer so much more heartache then what we feel now, and feel ashamed for being unalbe to even move - but there is something else or someone else out there, just waiting for the love me and my husband can give...

All I want is my little girl back - that's I guess, how I truly feel.

That Wondergirl, was beautiful.

You know what is strange... I dreamed about my dog sammy today... She was 18 years old when she passed away but her spirit is always here... I know that it is a very big heartache when you lose a member of a family but just know ALLHEART, that her spirit is always around... She has more work to do for God now. Take care Allheart and as others have said it will take time...

My dear sweet Allheart, my heart broke when I read this. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I know how much you love (not loved, because you'll never stop loving her) Kara, and how much her death is hurting you.

Sweet Allheart, Kara was the luckiest dog in the world, she had you as her Mommy, and lived a very happy life with you and your husband. She is up in heaven right now telling all the other dogs how lucky she was. She will always be with you in spirit, and she will be waiting for you in heaven. One day, a long time from now, you will be greeted by Kara at the gates to heaven, this I believe with all my heart.

Until then you have memories and photos, and a big piece of your heart that seems to be missing, but it will be whole again, Kara wouldn't want it any other way my dear.
