I cant do my hw what's wrong with me?
No matter how hard I try I can't get myself to do homework I tell myself to do it I don't. If I can get myself to do it it hurts my head. But Im not known to have a problem and I can do class work no problem. And Im in 4 advance classes. Im going into 8th grade and want to figure this out before high school. Any ideas?

Do you have a "study buddy"? Perhaps a change of scene would help you concentrate better.

Figure this out: Why can you perform in school and not at home?

Like wondergirl said, try to find a different way of studying. I like to move from place to place when studying... one week, I'll study in the library, next week at a coffee shop, next week on my patio, etc.

Also, try to find a friend that you can study with... actually study with.

It could be that you can learn visually and verbally, but have trouble assimilating written text. You didn't mention what classes are advanced and which classes you have trouble with. That can be a clue.

What have you noticed about your actions when you do homework--what doesn't seem to be right so you can study or do the work assigned? Do you lose concentration? Do you get bored? Do you get hungry?

Also, what is your homework environment? In your bedroom lying on your bed and listening to your iPod? Sitting at a desk? Sitting at the kitchen table with people moving all around and talking? TV is on? Music is playing? Total silence?

I sit in my room no noise and I cnt concentrate
I always had music playing in the background--either soft instrumental or quiet singing (Johnny Mathis). Have you tried that? Or one of those white noise makers that makes a sound like rain or just a droning? That would keep it from being total silence and would cover up noises in other parts of the house.

In the classroom there is noise, but if the teacher is in control of the class, the noise is mostly made around the lesson and your brain stops listening to the extra sounds.

What if you would add some low-volume background music when you do homework? What if you set aside a certain time, say, 35 minutes. You would study that long and would take a ten-minute break, then study 35 minutes, then take a break?

Start with the easiest and shortest first. When you finish that homework, you will feel proud of yourself for accomplishing something. Then move to hard stuff and work on that for 35 minutes.

    Hi, nickeknew!

When I studied, I liked to vary things so that I wasn't spending the whole time studying. I would do some study for a certain amount of time and then something that I really liked to do, like play the piano, again, for a certain amount of time. Then, it would be back to studying. Maybe that sort of schedule might work for you?

That's what Sneezy does, and it must work because he is on his way to medical school.

I believe that Sneezy was talking about a change in the place where he studies and not so much in the schedule of study with alternating it with things that didn't involve study.

I know that he goes off to the gym to take a break from studying or goes to a coffee shop for a snack--doesn't take his homework with him but just gets away from it for a different scene.

I used to get nothing done if I went to the library, or anyplace quiet. The student union building or a coffee shop was perfect. All of my homework got done. Doing it in class worked too, noise! The noise had to be human, but not someone talking to me.

I had that problem when I was a kid I was diagnosed with adhd when was in 9th grade. y

but you have to get tested for it so I can't say for sure if it turns out you have that though you don't always need medications. They have allot of good programs and there are even books written in a way that makes it easier for adhd people to focus on them. There might be things like that out now for homework or ways the teacher can arrange how its worded on the paper so it will be easier for you to stick to it and get it done.

I had a very good dr who diagnosed me. He had allot of good ideas to help me focus on my work he added things into my iep like I was allowed to listen to music while doing school work so I could tune out distractions as well as if there was a book report due and they wanted you to write it out I was allowed to use the computer or typewriter because it made it easier and I wouldn't have such a hard time focusing on my writing for me it was the pencil and paper that was hard I have awful and writing and it would take me a very long time to get going.

I was awful at basic math and algebra but very good at geometry.

so that's cool your doing algebra ^_^:D
