Security deposit refund if person changes their mind about a rental property
I live in rochester NY. A woman put down a security deposit of 775.00 for rental of my condo for 8/1/08. I made it very clear that this was nonrefundable and she would lose it if she changed her mind. Five days later she changed her mind. It took me 4 additional weeks to rent it for 8/15/08. I also had additional advertisement fees and mileage. Do I have the right under ny law to keep her full security or do I have to pay her the balance after my expenses are deducted. Thank you

She would owe you for the amount of rent that was due, if she signed a lease, would be responsible for the cost till it was rented. Not responsible for advertising and milage, that is your cost of doing busiess.
