My wife was hit by a large truck in the Walmart parking lot 2 years ago. The 2001 chevrolet Malibu only had 27,000 miles on it. It was declared a total loss by State Farm. I purchased the vehicle in anticipation of fixing the vehicle as it was all superficial damage and the air bag had deployed. I misplaced the title. I have just completed repairing the vehicle and asked State Farm to send me a replacement title. They are now telling me that this was a certificate of destruction title and that I cannot fix the vehicle. The representative even went so far as to say she thought that State Farm would still retain the title and I could not even ask the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles to issue this in my name. Is their some way I can get the State of Florida to issue me a title so that I can drive this vehicle? I do not want to sell it. It was an excellent car and has such low mileage I do not want to just sell the parts. The damage was all bolt on parts other than the air bag.:confused:

Try going to the DMV ,give them your licence and if the car is still under your name witch it should be they should be able to issue you a title,mite issue it has a junker but after repairs and a mechanical fitness by a licenced mechanic there shouldn't be a problem putting the car back on the road :)

Who did you purchase the car from? Generally when an insurance company declares the vehicle a total loss, they assume ownership and sell it as scrap.

So it sounds like State Farm is givng you the straight facts and you wasted time and money restoring the vehicle.
