    Is this plumber's putty
I am a new, first time homeowner so I'm sorry if this is a silly question. I've purchased a new manufactured home that was installed over a year ago. Both the basket strainers in the kitchen sink seem to have this gooey putty oozing out the sides, and it is now being smeared all over my sink. I can scrape away gobs of it with my finger. Is this normal? If this is plumber's putty, shouldn't it get hard?

I am worried that my sink is not sealed properly and/or this goo can hurt my family. I wash my kids bottles in that sink. I'm having this same issue with both bathroom sinks and with the shower drain.

    Thanks for any help,
    Chrissy

Sounds like puumbers putty to me, sort of like Play Doe. Plumbers putty remains soft for a long time. Shouldn't be oozing out unless the nut holding the sink baskets were not tightened enough.

Sounds like the installer made the rope of putty too thick and now it's squeezing out from under the drain lips. This may be a annoyance but it's harmless.
Your only concern is that as the putty works out the retaining nut tension gets weaker under the drain,(see image). Go under the sink and retighten the nut. There will be more putty squeeze out but As you tighten it more will be squeezed out until the seal's permanent. Just part of breaking in a new home. By the way! Good luck in you new place! Tom
