reeses420 Does anyone know anything about autism in 12 month olds? Is screaming a sign?

Here are some signs
1. little or no eye contact
2. he does not respond to his name at 12 months old
3. does not babble or coo by 12 months
4.does not gesture or point by 12 months
5.does not say a single word by 16 months
And last has loss of and social or language skills of any age.

If he has more then 3 of any symptoms then I STRONGLY suggest you see a doctor soon.

If you feel you can't take care of the child in case he does have this.
Then do the right thing and put the baby in safe hands
A fire station, police station or hospital will take him/her, No questions asked at all. Tottaly confidential.

Redhudd, do you know what might be causing the 12 month old to be screaming on a daily basis?

Autism may consist of the inability to process complex information in a "normal" way. Try a quieter environment with as little sensory imput (like TV) as possible. Also consider tactile, olefactory and visual imput such as rough clothing, strong smells and a myriad of colors.

The child should be evaluated by a physician to determine the possible cause of the screaming. In the meantime, earplugs can cut the volume of the screams, allowing you to be more responsive and less stressed.

I have a 6yr. Old with Autism and had no idea @ 12 months that anything was wrong. In fact my son never cried and I thought that he was just a good baby so kudos to you for being so aware and not in denial that something may not be right, Early Intervention is your best tool!! If in doubt, ASK! No harm in asking a professional and then you won't have to play the what if game later. Good Luck! Autism is not the end of the world, just a different one. Jami
