We have so many yellow jackets it's driving me mad. I live in Canada, and late summer and fall they are always bad. I looked at our province's entomology site and they say we have three species. So I looked into them. We have regular yellowjackets, the bald faced hornet (not a real hornet) and the European hornet. I've actually seen all three. And the info I've found is accurate. Although the european hornet looks like it would kill me with three stings, they leave me alone. The bald faced hornet (wasp) are around and pester a bit, but generally there isn't a lot and they are okay. The real jerk of the crew is the regular yellow jacket! Sites all say to keep food away, and so on, but I'll just be out there, standing on my deck and they just get in your face! There is something like a million of them in my back yard. I did find a nest in my neighbour's back porch eaves. I can chat with them about it, but I doubt they'll do anything. Anyway, what do you suggest I do? I've been sitting out there, trying to relax holding a can of Raid and every time I see one, I try to spray it. It's mass murder out there! But they keep on bothering me.
And when we were camping, one stung my poor 10 month old daughter. And now I have a real hate on for them!
