Do I need legal custody of my granddaughter?
My daughter has given my granddaughter to me again. I usually have her for at least 6 months every year. She will be 14 this year. I would like to get legal custody of her so I can get her on my insurance as she hasn't been to a doctor in years. I usually take her to a dentist every time I have her. My daughter wants me to keep her until she is 18 as she has never bonded with her. Every time she sends her to me she gets mad about something and takes her back in six months of so. This is starting to hurt my granddaughter's education. I told her last time when she took her back that I wouldn't allow her to come back again because of the education situation, but I can't tell my granddaughter no. Buy the way, my granddaughter just meet her biological father and spent a month with him. He pays child support to my daughter, but he is not listed on the birth certificate. My granddaughter wants to go live with him when she is 14. I told her I don't think that there is a law that says she can choose where she wants to live at that age but she is convinced that there is. Help!!

You will need a family lawyer most definitely. Now, there is no such law that states that she can choose where she wants to live, it will be up to a judge and the judge will listen to her reasons for wanting to live with her father, however, he will make the decision of custody based on her best interests, not solely on her wants.
