    Painting over rock and mortar
    Hi,

We live in an older home (early 1900) in the state of Wisconsin. We have a basement that is rock and mortar on the outside. We have had to fill in some mortar on the outside because of holes over time. I want to paint this to hide the mortar we have added. Should I use primer first before I paint it? Also do you have to use a special paint for this or an I use the same paint I use on the house?

    Thank you,

    Jane

You would want to use a block filler to prime that so it is sealed. Then you can use whatever paint you want.

    Hi all:

Just wanted to pop up a visual for Jane... ;)

Click on this link below... brings you to a picture/description of Olympic masonry block filler/primer Amricca's talking about:

AOL Image Search results for "block filler primer"

Any brand that is available at home depot or Lowe's will work fine. Read all instructions.

    Good luck...
