Pressurized Hydraulic Reservoir on Wood Splitter
My Log Splitter is building pressure in the hydraulic reservoir, when the unit is running,
And it is blowing out the air vent off the reservoir, making a mess, I also noticed that my \
Oil seal on the hydraulic pump is leaking now? Is the pump sucking air in, causing pressure to build in the reservoir? The unit works fine, other than the mess its making.
I did add 2 quarts of Honda Hydraulic oil to the sump, and I am not sure if the oil in the sump was hydraulic 10 Wt. or Dextron III, and would that make a difference?
    Thank You,
    Gust Martinez

    How old is it?

I am not sure how old the splitter is it was given to me by a friend who's uncle had built it,
It worked fine for splitting about 10 cords of hard woods, and then just start venting hydraulic oil out the air vent, and now the reservoir seems to be continuously pressurised, and it blows out the vent, plus my seal is leaking on the pump now? It still is running and working fine, plenty of power, and runs good. Do I have to bleed off the pump while its running, and how do I do that? Also what's better to run Dextron III, or 10 wt. hydraulic oil, it has been hot when I am using the splitter, I was thinking of switching to 30 wt. hydraulic oil? LOST on what to do?
