    Noise from ceiling and/or walls
    Hi,
I am new home owner and I bought this single family home in May'08. After buying it, I've installed laminate floor in entire home and also installed recess lights. I have been hearing voices like knocking or tapping either from walls or ceiling, but I am not able to determine from where it is coming. Mostly it is coming from family room and living room, but sometimes I do hear it from bedroom. I have copper pipe going through the ceiling and have checked attic area couple times, which looks perfectly fine. Do you think something wrong with the foundation or structure? I am very much worried. Any comments or suggetions will be helpful.

    Please guide. Thanks in advance.

Don't worry it is a type of bug harmless to the house found commonly in radiators though they sound like they are everywhere.

    Niceknew,
Thanks for quick reply, but I don't quite understand what do you mean by "house found commonly in radiators though they sound like they are everywhere". I have no knowledge about construction and this home was originally built in 1975.

Thanks Nickeknew. Sometimes it is disturbing my sleep, hence concerned.

Did you hear these sounds before you installed the flooring and lighting or did they start after the work was complete? Most wall sounds are caused by water pipes expanding and contracting with temperature changes or flow of water stopping. If you flush a toilet or turn on a hot water faucet can you make the noise happen?

Since I have changed the floor and installed lights immediately after moving in (next day after moving in), I didn't notice if it was there before or not. I do have copper pipes going through ceiling. But I don't hear noises when I turn on hot water or flush the toilet. Frequency of noise and timings are inconsistent.

Without tearing up ceilings or walls you might have to try to get used to the sounds. Pipes can making popping noises and even hammering sounds. The hammer we can fix without tearing out a wall but the popping will be difficult. Which better describes your situation?

It sounds more of hammering. I am looking for cheaper solution. I don't want to spend lot of money.

    Thanks for everything.
