TN Status Wanting to Buy a Home
I am currently on a TN Status. My boyfriend and I found a great home and it is extremely affordable. Will owning property in the US effect my status in any way? Even when I go to re-aply? Also, what are the tax implications of owning property in the states but being from Canada?

Would I be better off signing a contract with my boyfriend and putting the house in his name to avoid any problems?

    Thanks!

Non-Us residents can buy/own a home in US.. no problem, except you pay property tax at a bit higher rate than US residents.

If you are not married, buy it under your name or if this is a joint owner and both of you pay equally, then buy it under both names. If you make a purchase under your b/f's name, it's legally his. Before making this decision, go find a book "Women and Money" written by Suze Ormon and read it first.

Thanks for your response:) I am a big fan of Suze and I know her motto of not buying a home unless you are married or sign a contract. I think I would sign a contract if nothing else but I am leaning towards both our names for sure.

Why would the tax rate be higher for me? Canada can collect property tax on property in other countries? I pay car property taxes down here and not in Canada... Could you please give me details?>

    Thanks !
