I have know my friend for about 5 years, he has been there financially for me the entire time. He really loves me, and he asked to marry me, I told him yes. But after a few days I begin to realize that I don't love this man I am just doing it because I feel guilty. He is 37 years old and lives with his mother, he isn't the type of man I would marry and I don't know how to tell him this without him falling apart. If I am honest with myself the only reason I kept him around is to help me financially which is why I feel so guilty. But marrying him or even dating him isn't something I want. I want to break things off with him and let him go find a woman who truly loves him but I don't know how to do that.

Any advise?

Your situation does sound like a hard one, when it comes to a big decision that will change your whole life you need to think of you and only you. Will you be happy with this man as your husband, or will you be miserable and it will end within a couple years and then it was a waste of your time, meanwhile you could be finding MR. RIGHT and someone you could see yourself being happy with. If he is a real friend then he will understand you two just weren't meant to be together.

I agree if he truly loves you he will understand

Honesty! He will be extremely hurt but in time he will realize you did what's best for both parties involved

In all fairness, it is time that you are HONEST with your friend. It seems to me he has been there for you for a long time. Now be there for him even though you think he will fall apart. The situation would be worst if you marry him and then tell him the truth.
