Can someone tell me how to bore underneath a concrete sidewalk? This is a "standard" looking sidewalk, I guess 4" thick and about 30-36" wide. (Yes I forgot to measure) I need to run a 4" black corrugated drain pipe underneath the sidewalk for a gutter downspout runoff. I've heard you bang a pipe underneath there and shoot water through it to help erode the dirt out but I'm not familiar with the details. Can someone provide those please or any other method if you know something easier? Thanks.

If you dig your pipe trench on either side of the sidewalk, you should be able to create a tunnel with a steel bar, especially after you have removed as much dirt as you can reach from each side. The water jetting will work if you have good water pressure (mine's crummy) but I don't think you need it. You should make your tunnel midway between any joints in the sidewalk.

I have used the bulletmole to install irrigation pipe and electrical conduit under sidewalks and driveways without the hassle and mess of water not to mention the potential of cracking the concrete if you erode too much substrate. The best thing about the bulletmole is that it will penetrate rocks and goes right through other stuff. I have used the original tool now for 8 years and have just bought the new model after seeing their video at a trade show (its on their website). The new model eliminates the hassle of couplings when you want to go longer distances. Unlike other methods I have used, this solution is the easiest. If you're a contractor, you really should consider this tool, it has lasted a long time and the company stands by the product. If you can't afford one, I would call your local rental first before trying something else.
